Hi, I'm Derek Beckman!

Derek is a certified meditation teacher and the first student to complete Danja Yoga's 150-hour Meditation & Mindfulness Teacher Training program under the mentorship of Daniel Sernicola. Derek has experience with guiding fellow practitioners through mindfulness meditations and breathing exercises that calm the heart and mind, bringing us to the present moment in a world that is seemingly always on the go.
His mindfulness and meditation journey began when he realized he needed help with managing the trials and tribulations of life, decreasing his reactivity and finding more compassion for himself and others. In a seemingly fateful meeting, Daniel and Derek met and, with Daniel's guidance, his practice has evolved from a habit that not only helps him manage day to day stressors, but has become a lifestyle that guides that way he lives his life. Derek has seen the impact of mindful meditation in his own life and wants to share the gift of this practice with others!
Outside of the studio, Derek has been a member of the Air National Guard since 2019, actively volunteers with the Alzheimer's Association and loves to golf. He is currently a student at The Ohio State University studying psychology. He is a Research Assistant on the Suicide and Trauma Reduction Initiative (STRIVE) team at OSU Wexner Medical Center where he contributes to research on mindfulness interventions for reducing risk factors for suicide. Derek is a local Olde Towne East resident and enjoys bringing a little peace and calming to the neighborhood.
Derek welcomes anyone who wants to find ease in their life to join him in his meditation classes!
